Reuters featured prominently at this year's Visa pour L'Image festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France. Over 4,000 photo professionals from around the world descended upon the French city for four days of exhibitions, evening screenings, award presentations, debates and meetings.
Reuters photographer Akintunde Akinleye's award-winning image at the scene of a pipeline explosion in Lagos, Nigeria was the signature image for this year's festival and appeared on posters throughout the city and on all the Visa advertising campaign throughout the summer.
Visitors queued for up to an hour to visit "Afghan Steps", an exhibition by Reuters Kabul-based photographer Ahmad Masood, who attended the event. Ahmad was interviewed for French TV, press and radio including Canal+, Le Figaro and L'Independent. Spanish daily newspaper El Pais published a series of his pictures.
Nightly open-air screenings in the Roman amphitheatre presented new work by leading photographers and agencies. A presentation of images by Reuters photographers Reinhard Krause and Nir Elias and freelancer Adam Dean gave rare insight into North Korea from the banks of the Yalu river.
