Applications are now being accepted for the ICF/Thomson Reuters Foundation workshop, 'Introduction to Business and Financial Reporting'.
These intensive five-day workshops are tailored for ambitious African business journalists who want to broaden their focus, sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of economic and business issues of relevance to the continent. Participants will convert theory into practice through frequent exercises and story-writing against tight deadlines, built on simulated economic news scenarios. Detailed briefings, expert guest speakers, group discussions and a field reporting trip are core elements of these challenging courses. There will be opportunities for participants that excel in each of the introductory courses to attend the advanced course in either London, Paris or Lisbon.

Applicants for this programme must currently be working as journalists or regular contributors to print, broadcast or online media organisations. They must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in journalism in their country must have at least two years’ professional experience and have a good level in spoken and written English/French or Portuguese. Applications can be sent in English, French or Portuguese.

- A biography of up to 250 words outlining your career.
-Two recent examples of your published work, preferably relevant to the course for which you are applying, with a brief summary in English (if necessary). TV/Radio journalists can send in their scripts and a brief summary.
- A statement of between 250 and 500 words describing any factors affecting your work as a journalist. Explain how you hope to benefit from the course for which you are applying.
- A story of 250-500 words on the state of your national economy.
