2007-08-23 15:24:55

Reuters launched a new website dedicated to the world's most popular sport this week.

The website will provide in-depth coverage of the English and Scottish Premier Leagues, UK domestic cup tournaments and the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup. It will also cover all the latest football news from the major leagues and cup tournaments in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia.

Its launch, on reuters.co.uk, coincides with the start of the football season in some of the world's biggest leagues, in France, Germany and England.

Sports coverage is seen as high value by many Reuters customers and is a factor in why they choose Reuters as their supplier of news and information.

Users of the new site can look forward to: breaking football news and award-winning photography from Reuters and Action Images; in-depth match commentary and team information; football blogs from the Pluck blog network, and from Reuters team of global reporters; regular interactive polls on the key issues of the week.

Reuters sports editor Paul Radford said: "We're proud of our worldwide network of specialist sports reporters and, in particular, of our UK, European and international football coverage, which we believe is second to none. This site will bring together the reliable and authoritative reporting of Reuters specialist football correspondents and enable football fans to enjoy a wealth of information that should satisfy even the most avid supporters."

Tim Faircliff, general manager for consumer media, UK & EMEA, said: "Sport, and particularly football, is increasingly a key part of global mainstream news, and one of the most popular areas of our websites. The depth of the content on our new football site will ensure that we provide our users with a one-stop-shop for all football news, match and team information and commentary, alongside our award-winning photography."

In-depth coverage will be focused on:

• English Premier League
• Championship, Leagues One and Two
• FA Cup and League Cup
• Scottish Premier League
• Scottish Divisions One and Two
• Scottish Cups
• UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup
