Nine 2008 Fellows
Nine 2008 Fellows
Journalists from around the world are invited to apply for ten Fellowships offered by the World Press Institute (WPI) featuring two months in the United States with coast-to-coast travel.  Deadline for applications is January 31.
Applications are available online at http://worldpressinstitute.org/apply.htm. Fellows will be selected by April 1.
The programme starts on August 16 with a three-week residency in Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota.  The Fellows will then spend four weeks travelling to four or five U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Washington and New York before returning to Minnesota for the final week. WPI pays all programme costs, including travel to and from and within the U.S. and all accommodation, plus a modest per diem allowance for food. Applicants must have at least five years full-time news experience and fluency in all aspects of English, and provide several written essays, three letters of recommendation and at least three work samples.
The annual WPI fellowship programme brings journalists to the United States to experience the complexities of U.S. life through the eyes of a reporter working under constitutionally guaranteed “free speech” conditions.  The programme seeks to immerse Fellows in the governance, politics, business, media, journalistic ethics and culture of the United States through a demanding schedule of study, travel and interviews throughout the country.
The World Press Institute is a private, non-profit organisation supported by a wide range of foundations, local and national media, multinational U.S. corporations, and individuals from all over the world.
