The course will help journalists develop their skills in international news, with specific emphasis on U.S and Chinese audiences. Guest speakers, reporting field trips,  and classroom training will be an integral part of the course.  China's rise as a global power and connections to the US will be explored with reporting on manufacturing; energy and commodity consumption, a changing Chinese society; and China's growing political, media, and economic linkages to the world.

Eligibility

The course is aimed at full-time reporters from the United States and Beijing based Chinese journalists with a minimum of 3 years experience in journalism.

Funding

Full bursaries to US Journalists (including economy travel expenses, accommodation and some meals)
Part bursaries to Chinese journalists (travel expenses)

Submissions

  • Applicants must have prior permission from their editor to apply and travel during course dates if selected. Please list the name and contact number of your supervising editor:
  • A biography of up to 250 words outlining your career.
  • Two recent examples of your published work, preferably relevant to the course for which you are applying, with a brief summary in English (if necessary). TV/Radio journalists can send in their scripts and a brief summary.
  • A statement of between 250 and 500 words describing any factors affecting your work as a journalist. Explain how you hope to benefit from the course for which you are applying.
